Midsummer's Mayhem // Rajani LaRocca

What a fresh twist on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream! I've only read a few kid's Shakespeare retellings that I've truly enjoyed and this book made the list.

Our main character Mimi is an amateur baker with mad flavor skills...but in a family of talented siblings, even talented parents, she has a difficult time seeing how her unique abilities make her so wonderful.

She enters a baking contest but finds it a bigger challenge than anticipated. Mimi practices and practices her recipes. Her siblings taste test her treats. But then her family members start acting strange, strangely, and stranger by the day. Could she have fed them something that caused these weird behaviors?

When she meets a boy who also has taste-bud powers, they team up to create a recipe that will fix everything that's going wrong, and that will help Mimi win the contest.

Aptly named, this novel runs rampant with all kinds of fun and delicious mayhem. By the end, you will be inspired to try your own hand at baking some new recipes!
